The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

All right, this book is just really awesome. A lot of you probably heard us talk about it during Genre Bingo--it's the story of Matteo Alacran, a young boy who is anything but ordinary. Matteo is the clone of El Patron, a drug lord who is also the ruler of the country of Opium. The story follows Matteo as he learns the truth about the world around him--and about exactly El Patron has planned for him. This book was published a few years ago, but now is the perfect time to pick it up, because the sequel just came out!
